Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, "Canada's Most Notorious City," has nothing to do with moose jaws. It is an Anglicization of the Cree word for "warm breeze."
Why is it notorious? According the director of the Moose Jaw Tourist Board:
1. There are tunnels under the city used to hide Chinese immigrants during the Yellow Peril Scare of the 1920s, and bootleggers during Prohibition.
2. Brothel owner Rosie Dale, who trained her horses to come into town and pick up customers.
