She was a reporter for a Twin Cities newspaper and interviewed him him when he came to town to sing a recital. It was noted that he had a hard time finding a local hotel that would allow a black man, even a famous black man, to stay there. He did not have such troubles in Europe.Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18329945861296929364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-814549419838495324.post-1712416757486551752020-01-10T08:19:56.439-05:002020-01-10T08:19:56.439-05:00Hey, I'm just glad someone understood one can ...Hey, I'm just glad someone understood one can be both black and gay.

My generation's struggle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-814549419838495324.post-91865629661383473012020-01-10T04:40:40.598-05:002020-01-10T04:40:40.598-05:00Maybe Kepner wasn't remembering the incident a...Maybe Kepner wasn't remembering the incident accurately, after 40 years. I've heard a lot of stories that sound like casual meetings with celebrities exaggerated into hookps. I did it myself in West Hollywood, when my lunch with Michael J. Fox somehow turned into an afternoon three-way.NYSocBoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06658785942817017972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-814549419838495324.post-12410484003392851222020-01-09T20:53:42.715-05:002020-01-09T20:53:42.715-05:00At a Robeson centennial event some years ago, I wa...At a Robeson centennial event some years ago, I was told that Robeson's long-time accompanist, Lawrence Brown, was himself gay and that early on in their association, Robeson basically told him, cordially, 'Thanks, but no thanks.' Robeson had enough connections into the Harlem Renaissance and the show world in general that it seems likely that he was, as they say, straight but not narrow. I have an autographed lithograph of Robeson as Othello, also signed by the artist, Biberman. It is a prized possession.
I wonder if Kepner (whom I met once at a science fiction convention) had Robeson confused with someone else?
anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17951695323985335556noreply@blogger.com
