Sex, Sexuality, and Gender

"Sex" usually refers to biological sex, as determined by chromosomes, hormones, and primary sexual characteristics.  It can usually be distinguished as male and female, but there are many variations: XYY, XXY, intersex, and so on.

"Gender" usually refers to your identity as a male or female person.  It can usually be distinguished as male and female, but again, there are many variations.  Your biological sex may or may not correspond to your gender identity.

"Sexuality" or "sexual identity" refers to who you experience erotic or romantic desire for.  It can usually be divided into heterosexual, gay/lesbian, and bisexual, but there are many variations: you can experience erotic desire for one gender and romantic for another, or erotic only, or romantic only, or no desire at all.
