You should add a blog post about soap commercials (pre-1990). I remember watching them as a kid- with odd curiosity- naked muscle men , even pro sports stars- in the shower. One of my favs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvMtRdaz8Cs
ReplyDeleteThat's soft core gay porn
DeleteThat guys a long time taking a shower specially those long angle shots in which he shows off his armpits
DeleteMight be subtextual. Checkers Rally's 2019, Purple mattress everyone wants to try, Geico roommates goat. You can find them on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteI found the Geico roommate commercial, but not the Checkers/Rally
DeleteI found one where the same guy is playing two people, or maybe himself twice, talking about Checkers food and asking "if this is a date." It strikes me as homophobic, playing into the idea that gay men are all narcissists, trying to date themselves.

ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the general comments under classic TV and movies columns? Eliminated? Are you cutting back on general comments. Are you planning to retire? You have said in the past you have not done any updates in five years.
ReplyDeleteI'm not accepting comments on classic movies and tv anymore, since I've already covered everything of gay interest that I saw during my childhood. I'm now reviewing contemporary movies and tv shows, but I haven't indexed them.
DeleteI am sorry you eliminated general comments under movies. There were some great recomodations which I viewed and enjoyed.
