I got another guy on my Instagram recommendations who is very famous outside the U.S. but unknown here. Actually, two guys.
Instagram Recommendation #1: Alan Carr (not his real physique, but there's an underwear shot on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends). He's a comedian and presenter with over 200 appearances on British tv, beginning in 2002. A few that stand out: The Law of the Playground, 8 of 10 Cats, Jool's Hootenany, The Friday Night Project, Spexy Beast Live...
I'm only at 2013.

Wait -- RuPaul's Drag Race UK?
Yep, Alan is gay. His ex-husband is comedy writer Paul Drayton, whose Ride or Die Trying was published in 2026.
I'm surprised that a gay person is such a major media figure, but maybe Britain is a little less homophobic than the States.
In 2023-2026, Alan narrated Changing Ends, an autobiographical comedy about growing up gay and femme in the 1980s. He starts out unaware of the existence of gay people, but soon figures it out. There are plotlines about coming out and getting a boyfriend.
Shaun Dooley (right) plays his macho Dad, who manages a 4th Division football club, and wants Alan to become a footballer, too.
Instagram Recommendation #1: Oliver Savell, who plays the young Alan.
I couldn't begin to profile Alan Carr in 12 photos and 300 words, so I'll profile Oliver.
The bald dude is Richard Franks, host of Enquiries, interviewing the super-famous 16-year old: Royal Television Society Award, nominated for two BAFTAs, presenter at the British Soap Awards and the National Television Awards.
He was born in Farnham, Surrey, one of those quaint English villages with cobbled streets, a castle, and...um...Domino's Pizza.
Before being cast on Changing Ends, Oliver performed in two plays at the Donmar Warehouse in London:
Force Majeure: After an avalanche at a ski lodge, the panicked reaction of the Dad (Rory Kinnear, n*de on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends) destroys the family.
Appropriate: Three estranged siblings visit their deceased father's plantation in Arkansas and must deal with the family history of anti-semitism and racism. He plays the child version of the gay brother (Edward Hogg,second right).
Arkansas had the second smallest number of enslaved persons of any state in the U.S., and only six plantations, so it's an interesting choice.
And two films:Belfast (2021), written and directed by Kenneth Branaugh, features a nine-year old boy (Jude Hill) in a working class family living through the Troubles, the Protestant-Catholic terrorism that plagued Northern Ireland from the 1960s through the 1990s. He gets a girlfriend, dang it.
Jamie Dornan (n*de on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends) plays his Dad.The Piper (2023): A composer is tasked with finishing her late mentor's concerto, but playing it has "deadly consequences." Think the Pied Piper of Hamelin, who promised to drive away the rats in the village, and when the villagers refused to pay him, took their children.
Julian Sands plays the mentor.
Oliver plays Colin, maybe the son of the composer or her sister.
He also provided the voices for a video game, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince
Coming up: The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Age 13 1/2, based on the 1980s book series by Susan Townsent. On New Year's Day, 1981, Adrian worries about acne, his parent's divorce, getting a girlfriend, and seeing a female body part. Yuck!
You're probably wondering if Oliver is gay in real life. He doesn' have many personal posts on his social media, just an occasional Christmas tree and shirtless Spiderman. And I can't tell from his work, playing an exuberantly gay kid and an annoyingly straight kid.
Interviews cagily skip over the question. But he was nominated for a British LGBTQ award, and he wears a shirt reading "I'm s*xy, and I throw it."
