What movie has the same plot as "The People We Meet on Vacations"? It's not "Much Ado About Nothing." With Heizer and Blyth d*cks

Before watching a movie, I always conduct research to make sure there are no nasty surprises, like homophobic jokes or queerbaiting. The People We Meet on Vacation (2026) looked promising: star Tom Blyth has played gay characters, and he's a guest at the wedding of Miles Heizer and Tommy Do.

And both Miles and Tom have n*de photos online.

But something about the plot bugged me:

Poppy and Alex (Tom Blyth) met at Boston College nine years ago, and started going on annual vacations together. They have a romantic connection, but every year they are dating other people, or something goes wrong and ruins their opportunity for bedroom stuff.

Lucien Laviscount, as Poppy's boyfriend, and hunky tour guide Luke Gage are among the problems en route to the bedroom.

After five years, they give up: obviously they are not Meant to Be Together.

But Poppy has stayed friends with Alex's brother, David (Miles Heizer), so she is invited to his wedding in Barcelona. Alex comes too, of course. And the ex-boyfriend. With all the misunderstandings, matchmaking, lies, secrets, and gossip, will they ever realize that they were Meant to Be Together?

It's a romcom. Of course they will.

Wait -- they didn't actually meet on vacation. They already knew each other when they started vacationing together.

I was turned off by the misleading title and the superfluous gay wedding, just there to provide a backdrop for a hetero courtship, but something else was bugging me.

This all sounded very familiar. I was sure that I had seen this movie before, but how? It just now popped up on my Netflix recommendations.

First I checked to see if it was a sequel to two movies with similar titles, Vacation Friends (2021) and The People We Hate at the Wedding (2022). No.

After extensive research, I found a movie with an identical plot: Anyone But You (2023), a romcom based on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

Grad student Ben (Glen Powell) and financial analyist Bea (Benedict and Beatrice, get it?) have a "we talked all night!' hookup, but then they ghost each other -- until Bea's sister starts dating the sister of Ben's best buddy. Then they have to interact, but with a "You're looking well" coolness.

They both move on to date other people. Bea's beau is Jonathan, played by Darren Barnet, the one with the horns. But the partners break up with them -- just before the wedding!

Ben and Bea end up on the same airplane on the way to Sydney for the wedding, and snipe at each other for 21 hours. To make matters worse, their exes are invited, too, and the relatives get all starry eyed about True Love: maybe they'll reconcile.

Bea's ex is the hunky Joe Davidson (backside on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends and a d*ck pic in his profile), whose size and shape threaten Ben.

With all the misunderstandings, matchmaking, lies, secrets, and gossip, are Ben and Bea ever going to find True Love?

It's a romcom. Of course they are.

I don't think I actually watched -- the superfluous gay couple would have been a turnoff. But I researched it sufficiently to remember the plot when an identical movie popped up.
