Ned Brower: From gay modeling to an ER nurse, getting older and less gay-coded year by year. With his d*ck, plus Malcolm in the Middle's

If you've been watching the medical drama The Pitt on Max, you've seen Ned Brower as nurse Jesse Van Horn (25 episodes, 2025-26).   90% of nurses are female, thus giving male nurses a queer coding, but Jesse is straight. There are lesbian and trans woman characters on The Pitt, but no gay men.

A few years ago, actually 26 years ago, Ned was posing for a gay magazine.  Six pack abs, nice beneath the belt action, absolutely gay coded, and quite handsome.

He reminds me of 1970s gay video star Peter Berlin, but cuter, and with a better physique.

Apparently a lot  happened in the 26 years between Ned's gay photos and his starring role on The Pitt.  Let's check out his biography:

Ned was born in 1978 in Seattle, and attended Southern Methodist University, studying film and psychology.  Shortly after graduation, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an actor and model.

He had cameo in The Princess Diaries (2001), and played Dude in Not Another Teen Movie (2001).  The character is not mentioned in plot synopses.

Google AI says that his friend is Eric Christian Olsen, but I doubt it. Eric is blonde

More after the break

Next Ned played Elliott Sawyer in three episodes of the teean soap Dawson's Creek. (2001-02):  An awkward "loser" sort, he keeps asking Joey (a girl) out.  She refuses a thousand times, but finally accepts-- but then dumps him to date her professor.  These people were rather sleazy.

The Professor is played by Ken Marino, who later starred in Wet Hot American Summer and The Other Two, playing buffonish characters that make you forget how hot he is (on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends).

Big Fat Liar
(2002) stars Frankie Muniz of Malcolm in the Middle as a teenage "big fat liar" who takes on the even bigger, fatter liar who stole his film script.

Ned plays Rudy, the sleazoid boyfriend of Frankie's big sister.

Frankie's d*ck, maybe, on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends.

Between 2000 and 2013, Ned was the drummer and back-up vocalist for the band Rooney.  They released four albums and ten music videos.  The only song I could find lyrics for is entirely heteronormative.

When they disbanded in 2013, Ned worked as an EMT, then enrolled at UCLA, receiving a M.S. in Nursing in 2017.  He went to work as a pediatric nurse at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, which led to his role as Nurse Jesse.

He also co-created a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, playing Mic Fleetwood; played electro-pop music as Bloodwerk: and wrote songs for the animated series Central Park (2020-22) and the Clone High reboot (2023-24).

Ned is married to a lady, and has two children. The eldest, Elliott, has inherited his strawlike hair.

No gay roles since 2000, no gay-inclusive music, straight in real life. A lot has changed in 26 years.  Gay potential has been lost.

Everything alters, and one by one we drop away.
All that's beautiful drifts away, like the waters.
