Peyton grew up in Las Vegas, and broke into the Disney/Nickelodeon teencom universe playing Wes Manning, the teenage girl in the sentient dog-owning family in Dog with a Blog (2013-14).
Not a great opening.
Next came Girl Meets World: Corey Matthews (Ben Savage) of the classic Boy Meets World moves into adulthood, where he is a history teacher (at his old high school, of course). The Girl is daughter Riley, who negotiates a best friend, a nerd friend with a crush on her, and the boy she is crushing, the dimwitted cowboy Lucas (Peyton).
It's a slow-moving relationship: they don't start dating until the end of Season 1, and don't kiss until the end of Season 2. Fans complained that they had no chemistry; they were dating because all Disney teencoms have to have a boy-girl romance. Rowan Blanchard, who played Riley, came out as queer in 2016, which may have modified the intensity of the hetero romance.
None of the fan blogs mention shipping Lucas and Zay (Amir Mitchell-Townes), a buddy from Texas who becomes a fifth member of the friend group., and there are only four or five fan stories on Archive of Our Own, so I'm guessing no gay subtext.
I'm starting to get nervous. Let's check Peyton's post-Girl work.
Gibby (2016): not the shirtless guy from ICarly, a Capuchin monkey who helps a young girl overcome the grief over her dead mother. And helps her win the Boy of Her Dreams (Peyton)
Brady in a 2019 episode of the Youtube series Wayne. The titular "Dirty Harry with a heart of gold" tries to get his father's classic car back and win the Girl of His Dreams. Peyton doesn't appear in the plot synopsis.
34 episodes of American Housewife (2018-21): He played Trip Windsor, a dimwitted, laid back dude who is dating Taylor Otto (the housewife's daughter).
The movie He's All That (2021): Peyton plays Jordan, an entitled jock who cheats on his girlfriend. She gets revenge by turning the class loser into Prom King, in a sort of My Fair Lady transformation. Guess who she ends up with.
It's actually a gender-swapped remake of She's All That (1999), with Freddie Prinze Jr. as the high school boy who gets cheated on by his girlfriend, and transforms an awkward, shy girl into Prom Queen. A generation later, were fans begging for a remake?
Peyton's last project was on my Mom's favorite soap, Days of Our Lives. In 2024-25, he played Doug Williams III, grandson of the original Doug Williams, who sneaks into town incognito, reveals his true identity, gets a job at the Brady Pub, and starts dating Holly Jonas, even though she's having her abusive boyfriend's baby.
Whew. Nine acting roles, and in every single one of them, he plays a straight guy with a girlfriend.
I'm not holding out any hope that this dude is gay in real life.
More after the break
Left: When I searched for a photo of Peyton with Ziggy, this popped up. But the guy with Peyton is not Ziggy, it's Gavin MacIntosh.
